Archer Named Skyline Player of the Week; Eddy Lands on Honor Roll

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Recognizing a career effort in the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team's victory over defending Skyline champion Sage College and leading the Bears to a 2-0 week, senior Jamir Archer (Staten Island, N.Y./CSI/McCown) was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 24 as announced in the league's weekly sports report released earlier today.

The 6-foot-4 forward sparked a dominant 54-32 second half for the Bears, pouring in 20 of his career-high 32 points, shattering his previous high of 22 and setting a new personal-best for the second time in three games. Archer shot 12-of-17 from the field and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe, also pulling down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Trailing by six at the half, the Bears (10-7, 7-6 Skyline) went on to defeat the preseason favorite Gators, 101-85, for their third straight victory.

On the 2-0 week for SJC, also defeating Medgar Evers College, Archer averaged 24.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 59.4 (19-32) percent from the field.

The most efficient shooter in the Skyline, the marksman currently leads the league in field goal percentage, connecting on 57.4 percent of his attempts, ranked 51st in Division III.

Averaging 14.7 points per game and ranked second on the team in total scoring, Archer has nearly tripled his output after tallying 5.6 points an outing his junior campaign.

The Player of the Week accolade is the first of Archer's career and second received by a Bear this season following Michael Megafu's (Jamaica, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) selection on November 23. The Bears have also landed on the conference honor roll six times this season, led by Matt O'Neill's (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) four mentions.

On the women's side, Erica Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) received honor roll recognition, the first of her career. The senior also had a career game vs. first-place, league undefeated Sage, draining her first five three-pointers—missing only one on the night—finishing with a game-high 20 points. She also grabbed six boards and dished out a game-high four assists in the losing effort.

The Bears and Lady Bears will return to action tomorrow in Newburgh, N.Y. facing Mount Saint Mary College in a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting with the women at 6 p.m. Live stats will be available on SJCBears.com.
