Etheart Selected Skyline Co-Rookie of the Week; Willis Lands on Honor Roll

NEW YORK — After recording his first collegiate double-double last week and later making a key defensive play in the win over Medgar Evers College, freshman Stephane Etheart has been selected as the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week announced by the league office earlier today.

The freshman guard/forward from Hollis Hills, N.Y. opened the week scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high-tying 11 boards versus borough rivals Brooklyn College on Tuesday to register his first collegiate double-double.

The St. Francis Prep product helped seal the Bears (1-3) first win of the season in their home opener against another Brooklyn foe, Medgar Evers College. After returning defensively for the final possession to help defend a one-point lead, Etheart intercepted a pass and went coast-to-coast putting SJC up three with just seconds remaining for the final 77-74 margin. He finished with six points, six rebounds and three steals in the victory.

Also recognizing his efforts in the victory was junior Alec Willis who was named to the Skyline weekly honor roll. Willis poured in a career- and game-high 31 points against Medgar and finished the week shooting 10-of-16 from behind-the-arc.

Riding their first win of the season, the Bears will return to action opening Skyline Conference play on Thursday, December 1st. St. Joseph's welcomes South Division favorite Farmingdale State College to The Hill Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off with live stats and video on SJCBears.com.
