Men’s Basketball Falls to Old Westbury on Alumni Day

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Freshman Matt McQuillen (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) scored a season-high 13 points and sophomore Aaron Parra (Brooklyn, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) recorded his team-leading fourth double-double of the season, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team was overmatched by SUNY College at Old Westbury, 97-69, in a rematch of the 2016 Skyline Conference title game, on Saturday evening as the team celebrated Alumni and Family Day.

How it Happened

  • Five-time Skyline Player of the Week and reigning Skyline Player of the Year Jamail Stanley scored 10 points over a 19-3 spurt to open the game and finished with 15 points and nine rebounds over the opening half to give the Panthers a 47-23 lead at the intermission.
  • Matt McQuillen netted 11 points in the second stanza in 12 minutes of action as the Bears tried to keep pace with the visitors, improving a 24 percent (8-34) shooting effort in the first half to 41 percent (15-37), but the Panthers edged out the Bears 50-46 in the closing 20 and never let SJC cut into the deficit.

  • Freshman Matt McQuillen led the Bears with 13 points off the bench, more than doubling his previous best of six points. He also dished out two assists and grabbed two rebounds.
