Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game to No. 21 Yeshiva

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team (4-9, 8-14) traveled to the Max Stern Athletic Center to take on first-place No. 21 Yeshiva University (21-1, 13-0) and fell 94-62 in a one-sided contest as the Skyline undefeated Maccabees won their 21st consecutive game and continued to cruise through the league schedule.

How It Happened
An and-one layup from senior forward Kavan Meiner (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) tied the game at seven just two-and-a-half minutes in as the Bears were hanging tough early on. YU pulled away slightly, but Meiner kept SJC in it once again with a finish just under the 14-minute mark that brought his team within four (17-13).

However, Yeshiva responded with seven unanswered points that brought them ahead 24-13 for their first double-digit lead of the game with 12 minutes to go before the break. The hosts extended the lead to as much as 15, but St. Joseph's battled back within single-digits as a Sebastien Etheart (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) scored at 5:51 to make it a 34-26 game.

A strong finish to the first half saw the Macs leading 48-34 at intermission, however, as they looked to close it out in the second. They proceeded to jump out to a 10-2 run to open half number two and that was all the separation they needed as the Bears never came back within 20 as they dropped their second-straight contest.

For the Bears

  • Sophomore Chris Mikos (Freehold, N.J./Saint John Vianney) chipped in a game-high-tying 13 points on 5-8 shooting with four boards, two assists, and a steal.
  • Meiner tied for the game-high with 13 points (6-11 FG) on top of two rebounds, two dimes, and two steals.
  • Stephane Etheart (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was the team's third-leading scorer with seven points while his brother Sebastien added seven boards, four points, and three assists.
