Men’s Soccer Blanked by Purchase

PURCHASE, NY – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team could not build upon their historic win over Webb on Saturday, suffering their first shutout in their inaugural season falling 10-0 on the road at the hands of Purchase College on Tuesday night.

Purchase (6-2-1) dominated in nearly all aspects of the contest, outshooting the Bears 24-1 in the opening 45 minutes and 33-3 for the game. The Panthers got on the board in the 7th minute on a Blaise Bourgeois goal off a rebound. Bourgeois scored again five minutes later and finished the game with two goals. Stefan Gohler also contributed two goals for the Panthers, scoring in the 14th and 21st minutes, helping Purchase build a 5-0 halftime lead.

Nick Polo (Madrid, Spain/Millennium HS), Derrick Akwei (Bronx, NY/Port Angeles HS) and Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) recorded the lone shots for St. Joseph's, two prompting Panther saves. Freshman goalie Michael Miner (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus) made six saves and several dazzling plays in a losing effort.

St. Joseph's (1-4, 1-2 HVMAC) returns to action for an Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference tilt against Vaughn College (1-3, 1-3 HVMAC) on Sunday, October 9th starting at noon at Queens College.
