Bears Lose to Albany Pharmacy in Conference Battle

SCHENECTADY, NY – St. Joseph's men's soccer dug themselves an early hole they couldn't climb out of Sunday afternoon to Albany Pharmacy. The defending Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) runner's up defeated the Bears 8-1 behind a hat-trick by Zach Hecox.

Albany Pharmacy (8-2-1, 5-0) jumped on the board early with a goal by Chris Wasacz 5:28 into the contest. The Panthers continued their attack in the early going with two more goals just 22 seconds apart to take a 3-0 lead.

St. Joseph's (1-7, 1-4) put in their first goal with 8:49 remaining in the first half. Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) found the back of the net to cut the Panther lead to 4-1.

The Bears couldn't put anymore points on the board and the Panthers added three second half goals for the 8-1 victory. Bears goalie Michael Miner (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus) made nine saves on 17 shots and Urshela and Gabriel Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/25 de Agosto) finished with three shots apiece.

St. Joseph's looks to earn a win against cross-borough rival Brooklyn College on Wednesday, October 19th. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
