St. Joseph’s Falls to Yeshiva in Season Finale

YONKERS, NY – Hudson Valley All-Conference selection Michael Miner (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus) kept St. Joseph's close in their final game of their inaugural season, but a barrage of second half opportunities proved too costly for the Bears. St. Joseph's trailed by one, 2-1 after 45 minutes, but five goals on 19 shots helped pull the Maccabees to a 7-1 win.

Yeshiva scored quickly in the first half, just six minutes into the frame, on a goal by David Roumani. The Maccabees extended that lead to 2-0 on a breakaway goal by Shai Barel, just past Miner with just over eight minutes left in the half. It looked like that score would hold up heading into the break, but Gabriel Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/25 de Agosto) had other ideas, scoring on a penalty shot with 40 seconds remaining to get the Bears on the board and give them some momentum heading into halftime. It was Gonzalez's second goal on a penalty kick this season and his fifth goal on the season.

The Maccabees squashed all of St. Joseph's momentum coming out firing in the second half with two goals before three minutes had elapsed. Miner tried to keep his team in it, making seven saves in the half, but Yeshiva tacked on three more goals to run away with a 7-1 victory.

Miner finished the game with 12 saves to give him 175 for the season. Gonzalez's goal gave him 13 points for the season, good for second on the team.

Roumani and Jack Sztrigler each had two goals for the Maccabees as they fired 30 shots for the game.

St. Joseph's completes its first ever soccer season 1-12, but has made great progress for the future.
