Men's Soccer Honors Four Seniors Hosting Washington Adventist in Home Finale
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Matthias Spiegel (Wedel, Germany/Clovis H.S.) scored the lone goal for the Bears as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day wrapping up their 2015 home schedule with a 3-1 setback to Washington Adventist University on Thursday afternoon.
The Basics
- Final Score: Washington Adventist 3, St. Joseph's 1
- Records: Washington Adventist (3-8-2), St. Joseph's (0-12-2)
- Location: Brooklyn, N.Y.
- Field: Aviator Field
How It Happened
- Both squads played the first half evenly and the game remained deadlocked until the 44th minute when Rigoberto Miga received a ball in the box off a corner and it found the back of the net through traffic to put the visitors up 1-0.
- The Shock took a 2-0 lead just two-and-a-half minutes into the second half when Dominic Atubongakeng fired a shot from the top of the box that found the side netting.
- Washington Adventist maintained a 16-1 shot advantage in the second half and despite several scoring opportunities, couldn't pull away any further.
- Matthias Spiegel cut the deficit in half and gave the Bears some life scoring with just over 10 minutes left in regulation heading a loose ball sent by Bencion Barrios into the box on a corner kick.
- But the Bears couldn't close the gap and a Darwin Caceres goal with 1:34 to play ended any hopes of a comeback.
For the Bears
- Spiegel's goal was his second of the season.
- Cesar Ovideo led the Bears with four shots, all coming on frame.
- Thomas Kennedy, Vaso Vukosavovic and Michael Ortiz each finished with a shot.
- Nolan Parr made seven saves in goal.
For the Shock
- The Shock outshot the Bears 25-11 for the contest, led by Emmanuel Ajayi's eight shots.
- Atubongakeng finished with a goal and an assist.
- Windell Reid made three saves and picked up the win in goal.
