Men’s Soccer Bests York With Second Straight Shutout

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior Beka Goduadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/Lyceum "NK") scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team secured a 4-0 triumph over York College (N.Y.) in a non-conference road matchup at Aviator Sports and Events Center on Monday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Bears controlled possession for most of the contest and fired off 10 shots in the first 23 minutes of action. St. Joseph's put the 11th attempt past the keeper with Beka Goduadze's low shot from inside the box in the 24th minute putting SJC up for good. The senior would strike one more time for the Bears third goal to record his first multi-goal game of the season. Freshman Thomas Mastoras set up both Goduadze goals.
  • Freshman Daniel Goncalves netted his second collegiate goal in the 35th minute putting back a rebound off a corner that gave the Bears a 2-0 lead headed into the lockers.
  • Junior Cesar Oviedo capped off the scoring in the 76th minute taking a long lead pass from Mateusz Georges to score his second goal of the season.
  • SJC dominated play over the opening 45 finishing with a 19-2 edge in shots and a 26-8 discrepancy for the contest. The defense held the Cardinals to just three shots on goal with freshman Juan Sandoval turning aside all three for his first collegiate shutout in his first career start in net.
