Men’s Soccer Suffers First Skyline Defeat in Shutout to Mount Saint Mary

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team (3-7, 1-1 Skyline) couldn't follow up on their Skyline opening win, losing to Mount Saint Mary College (5-4, 1-0 Skyline) in a six goal shutout on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
Sophomore Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Grover Cleveland) matched his season-high 13 saves in defeat after facing 15 shots (8 on goal) in the first half from the Knights. The visitors buried three of their first half goals in the span of seven minutes going into the first half. They led going into the half, 4-0.

The Knights scored two more goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half. Mount Saint Mary's senior Matthew Fuge scored led the away team with two goals. The Bears would not be able to recover losing 6-0.

For the Bears

  • Oliveros made 13 saves, his third double-digit save game of the season.
  • Kenneth Garcia (Elmhurst, N.Y./Bayside) led the Bears with two shots that could not find their way past the goalie.
