Late Goals See Farmingdale State Top Men's Soccer

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — A pair of late Farmingdale State (6-3-0, 4-0-0 Skyline) goals was the difference as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team (2-4-1, 0-2-1 Skyline) dropped a 2-0 conference decision to the hosts on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

Despite the Rams outshooting the Bears in the first half, 7-4, the match remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play. Eric Santiago Torres (Woodside, N.Y./Forest Hills) found the face of goal twice in the period, the only two shots on target for the Bears in the game.

Rookie Jesus Cano (Brooklyn, N.Y./Cristo Rey Prep) fired off SJC's lone shot of the second period before the Rams' Carlos Rivera grabbed a quick brace with goals in the 85th and 87th minutes to continue their unbeaten run in Skyline play.

For the Bears

  • Torres' two shots led the team. Cano, Arturo Franco (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grover Cleveland), and Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) accounted for the team's remaining five shots.

  • Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) finished with five saves, four of which came in the first half.
