Franco Lands on All-Skyline Second Team; Oliveros Earns All-Sportsmanship Nod

NEW YORK — Freshman defender Arturo Franco (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millenium Brooklyn) was named All-Skyline Conference First Team earlier today, as announced by the league office. Additionally, goalkeeper Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) was selected to the conference's All-Sportsmanship Team.

Franco started all 15 games for the Bears this season and helped fortify a backline that surrendered 50 percent fewer goals per game from the season prior and reduced their goals allowed in league play by 25 percent. The rookie scored his first collegiate goal in the navy and gray's 3-0 win over Maritime, kickstarting a three-match unbeaten run late in the season. Dishing out a pair of assists, the Bears posted a 2-0-1 record in games when Franco is involved in the goalscoring.

Coming up with 60 saves, good enough for seventh in the Skyline, Oliveros posted clean sheets on six occasions to set a new career and single-season program record. He earned a conference Defensive Player of the Week nod following his six-save shutout in the Bears' double-overtime victory against Hunter College. The graduate-student shot-stopper concluded his collegiate career second in Bears history with 353 saves and first in games played (66), games started (54), and wins (13).

Finishing the season at 4-8-3 overall, SJC placed 9th in the league with a 2-6-3 conference record

The all-conference teams and Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year awards are voted on by the Skyline Conference's 12 head men's soccer coaches based on regular-season play.
