Culinary Bypasses Bears Tennis in HVMAC Play

FLUSHING, NY – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team fell to the Culinary Institute of America, 8-1, in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference match at the U.S. National Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Freshman Jeff Bonowicz (Whitestone, NY/Holy Cross) saw his first action of the season and delivered the only point for St. Joseph's (0-8, 0-3 HVMAC) edging out his opponent at #5 singles, 10-8, in a highly contested match. Bonowicz teamed up with senior Danny Contant (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) at #3 doubles dropping an 8-1 decision.

Sophomore Simon Diaz (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) dropped a 10-5 decision at #6 singles. Senior Muhammad Ali Bhatti (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) succumbed 10-2 at #1 singles and paired up again with freshman Vinny Rossi (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) at #1 doubles before falling 8-3.

Culinary improved to 2-1 overall and in conference play with the victory.

The Bears return to the courts continuing HVMAC play hosting Cooper Union on Wednesday, April 25 at the U.S. National Tennis Center starting at 7 pm.
