Men's Tennis Opens Season With Loss to Webb

GLEN COVE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team opened their 2013 season dropping a 9-0 decision to Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference rivals Webb Institute on Sunday afternoon at Glen Cove High School.

St. Joseph's falls to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in HVMAC play while Webb improves to 2-2 and 2-1 in HVMAC competition.

The Bears managed to capture four games in singles play with the top four singles players led by James Hanophy (Albertson, NY/Holy Trinity HS), Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook Central), Jeff Bonowicz (Whitestone, NY/Holy Cross), and Vinny Rossi (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) each taking one game falling 10-1.

In doubles play, St. Joseph's won two games led by the No. 2 doubles duo of Nick Orlando (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King) and Bonowicz along with No. 3 pair Rossi and Dickson Tan (Brooklyn, NY/East-West School of International Studies) who each took a game apiece.

The Bears look to pick up their first victory of the season as they face Vaughn today for a HVMAC showdown at the USTA National Tennis Center with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
