Bears Tennis Shutout by Culinary

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team was swept by Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) foe Culinary Institute falling 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Racquet Club.

The Bears (0-8, 0-4 HVMAC) remain winless on the season while the Steels (4-3, 3-2 HVMAC) have won three of their last four matches.

Freshman Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook Central) played a hard-fought match at No. 3 singles in the longest match of the day, taking a 5-2 lead before succumbing 10-6. Sophomore Jeff Bonowicz (Whitestone, NY/Holy Cross) captured four games in his match at No. 2 singles falling 10-4.

In doubles play, St. Joseph's won five games led by the No. 3 duo of sophomore Dickson Tan (Brooklyn, NY/East-West School of International Studies) and senior Anthony D'Agosto (Brooklyn, NY/La Salle Academy) who played the most competitive doubles match falling 8-3. In No. 2 doubles, Johnson and junior Nick Orlando (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King) took two games losing 8-2.

The Bears continue to look for their first win as they play at Lehman tomorrow, April 28th with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m.
