Parr Collects Two Wins as Men's Tennis Falls to The New School
FLUSHING, N.Y.—Despite picking up wins in singles and doubles, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to The New School on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Junior Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) contributed to both Bears (1-6) points on the afternoon, teaming up with Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) to grind out a win at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-5), that cut the deficit to 2-1 headed into singles play.
But the Narwhals (2-1) captured the next five singles matches to clinch the overall match, with Parr still continuing to fight and claimed an 11-9 victory at No. 2 singles securing his team-leading third singles win of the season.
Kevin Caicedo (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) led the Bears atop the lineup in dropping a 10-3 decision at No. 1 singles.
The Bears resume Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play tomorrow returning to the National Tennis Center to host Berkeley College in a match that could move the Bears up to third place in the league standings. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
