Vaitzman Battles at No. 2 Singles as Men’s Tennis Travels to Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Freshman Daniel Vaitzman (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) played a hard-fought match at singles, but came up short of posting the lone point for the Bears at the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team fell to Purchase College, 9-0, in Skyline Conference action on Wednesday.

Vaitzman played the closest match of the afternoon but fell by a break in both sets to James Ham, 6-4, 6-4. In the doubles, he teamed up with Shivam Ghai (Nairobi, Kenya/International School of Kenya) at the top pairs match, but the duo fell 8-3.

The Bears (0-2, 0-2) will host United States Merchant Marine Academy tomorrow (Mar. 30) for their home opener at the USTA National Center in a match that was rescheduled from last week's storm. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
