FLUSHING, N.Y. — Junior Shivam Ghai (Nairobi, Kenya/International School of Kenya) went undefeated at the top of the Bears lineup to post two points, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team fell 5-4 to Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference match on Saturday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Bears (1-4, 0-4) held a 4-2 lead midway through singles before Sarah Lawrence (1-3, 1-2) took the final three matches to collect their first win of the season.

Ghai teamed up with Daniel Vaitzman (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) in the top pairs match to earn the lone point for the Bears in the doubles session.

SJC then took the first three singles points with Stephane Etheart (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) notching his first collegiate win with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Ghai followed with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles and Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) won her second straight singles match at No. 3 by a 6-3, 6-3 margin.

After the Gryphons took the next two points in the No. 4 and No. 2 matches, to level the overall match at 4-all, all eyes turned to the No. 6 match. William Kellogg outlasted Jack Dominics (Maspeth, N.Y./Academy for Careers in Television and Film) in a tight battle, winning a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5), to clinch the match.

St. Joseph's continues a four-match homestand welcoming Farmingdale State College to the USTA National Tennis Center for a conference match on Wednesday (Apr. 11) starting at 7 p.m.
