Men's Tennis Cruises Past York in Chalfin Debut

FLUSHING, N.Y. — In the first match under new head coach Jesse Chalfin, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team opened their 2019 campaign with an 8-1 victory over York College (0-1) on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

Sophomore Daniel Vaitzman (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), senior Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour), and freshman Darrius Thompson (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School for Public Service) each collected a pair of wins at both singles and doubles.

Vaitzman was victorious at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, and Trerotola prevailed in the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-0. Both paired up for a win at No. 1 doubles, 6-4.

Thompson clinched the overall win for the Bears (1-0), winning his No. 4 singles match, 6-2, 6-2 and he teamed up with Sean Devine Dunn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) for an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles.

Next Up for the Bears

St. Joseph's returns to action on Thursday, March 21 heading to the Garden State to take on Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham in a non-conference match starting at 6 p.m.
