CCNY Holds Off Men's Volleyball in Three
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Returning to the home floor for the first time in over a month, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team led for most of the third set but couldn't force an extra frame falling to City College of New York, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-23), in non-conference action on Friday evening at The Hill Center.
All seven Bears to see action chipped in a kill, led by Ramizjon Khudoyorov's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) five kills and three aces.
How it Happened
The Bears (0-4) remained close to the Beavers (5-1) in the opening set trailing 12-11 before the visitors broke away with a 10-3 run.
The second stanza saw seven early ties and two lead changes before an 8-2 Beaver spurt put them on top for good winning by a 25-18 margin as in the first set.
Neither team led by more than two early in the third and the Bears used a 9-2 run to build a 16-10 lead and forced CCNY to call both timeouts in the run. But the visitors responded with six straight to level the frame at 16-all and the Bears rebuilt a 21-18 lead. But trying to hold on to force a fourth set, CCNY won seven of the last nine points to close out the match in three.
