Men's Volleyball Unable to Get Past CCNY
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team (0-4) fell to the City College of New York, 0-3 (16-25, 11-25, 17-25), on Tuesday night at The Hill Center.
How it Happened
After splitting the first eight points, the Beavers (2-0) scored the next seven unanswered to lead 12-6. With the Bears unable to string together a run of more than two points, the visitors claimed the opening set, 25-16.
SJBK's points came on Beaver miscues in the second set as a strong CCNY attack proved to be too much for the Bears, falling 25-11.
The Bears claimed out of a 5-0 hole to start the closing period but were not able to come within two points of City College. Trailing by 10, 19-9, kills from Lordnel Saint-Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) erased their double-digit gap but brought them no closer to the 25-17 set result.
For the Bears
-
Helfant and Frank Tello (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) each had a pair of kills.
-
Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) was responsible for three assists.
-
Libero Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Vocational & Technical) brought up six digs.
