Lady Bears Overpower Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, NY – Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) had three hits and six RBI and Caitlyn Kakavas (Queens, NY/St. Agnes) and Jackie Marinello(Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne) scored three runs each in an 8-0, 9-1 sweep of Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon at National Grid Softball Field.

In the opening game, St. Joseph's loaded the bases in the first inning and Palmieri hit a three-run double to left for the game winning runs.  The Lady Bears added two more runs in the second inning and three in the third, setting up a two-run single by Kakavas to reach the eight-run threshold.

Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) pitched her 10th win in the circle tossing a complete game one-hitter striking out 10.

In game two, Palmieri delivered the game-winning hit again with a two-out, two-run triple in the first inning, scoring Marinello and Kakavas who led off with walks.  St. Joseph's plated four runs in the next inning and added a solo run in the fourth.

Brooklyn College managed six hits off starter Lisa Scheer(Queens, NY/Mary Louis), three coming in the fourth inning to score their only run.  Scheer finished giving up one run (unearned) and striking out seven for her tenth win of the season.

Palmieri finished hitting 3-for-6 with a triple, double, six RBI and two runs.  Kakavas hit 2-for-3 with three walks, two RBI and three runs.  Danielle Kramer (Queens, NY/Martin Luther) hit 2-for-2 with a triple, RBI and three runs.  Lauren Norris (Queens, NY/Long IslandCity) had two hits, with an RBI and a run.  Melissa Simo (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) and Christina Girardi (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) each picked up their first hits of the season.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday, April 28th with hosting cross-campus rival St. Joseph's-LI for a two-game slate at National Grid Softball Field.  The Lady Bears will be celebrating Senior Night, honoring the careers of graduating seniors Theresa Mendez (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep), Carissa Cancemi (Queens, NY/Martin Luther), Danielle Kramer (Queens, NY/Martin Luther), Catherine Norris (Queens, NY/Long Island City) and Jennifer Safi (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney).
