Lisa Scheer and Caitlyn Kakavas Take HVWAC Player and Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW YORK, NY – For the second straight week St. Joseph's has captured two-thirds of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) weekly accolades.  For their performances during the week ending April 5th, which included a pair of wins over St. Elizabeth, Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) was named HVWAC Player of the Week and Caitlyn Kakavas (Queens, NY/St. Agnes) HVWAC Rookie of the Week.  This is the first time either player has received the honor.

During the second game against St. Elizabeth, Scheer helped lead the Lady Bears to a 7-1 win nearly hit for the cycle, picking up a single, double and triple.  She finished the game going 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two.  Scheer also started the game in the circle pitching a complete game, improving her record to 3-3, striking out seven and allowing only one run on seven hits.  She finished the week accumulating a.444 batting average (4-for-9), .778 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage.

Starting in three games, Kakavas compiled a.500 batting average (4-for-8), .750 slugging percentage and .556 on base percentage. The freshman catcher/third baseman had three RBIs, scored two runs and had a triple. In the 3-1 win over St. Elizabeth, registered the game-winning RBI with a two-run double in the fourth inning that sealed the win for the Lady Bears first conference win this season.
