Caitlyn Kakavas and Lisa Scheer Nab Hudson Valley Rookie and Pitcher of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, NY – In reports for the last two weeks released by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC), Caitlyn Kakavas (Queens, NY/St. Agnes) was named Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 26 and Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) was named the Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 19.

Last week, Kakavas had a solid week helping lead the Lady Bears to a 3-1 record.  The freshman catcher/first baseman compiled a .429 batting average (3-for-7) and .545 on-base percentage.  She had three walks a stolen base, three RBI and scored three times.  The highlight of Kakavas' week was a 2-for-3 performance against Brooklyn College where she scored a run and drove in two.  This is the second week she has received the honor.

Two weeks ago, Scheer helped St. Joseph's clinch the 2009 HVWAC regular season title going 3-0 in the circle with two complete game shutouts of New Rochelle and New York University where she surrendered three hits over the two games.  Against New York University, she tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking none as the Lady Bears won 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh with a walk off run to break the 0-0 tie.  For the week, Scheer had a 1.33 ERA (21.0 innings), eight hits, 25 strikeouts, and two walks.  Scheer is a two-time Player of the Week and this is the first time receiving Player of the Week honors.
