Scheer Named AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month

KANSAS CITY, MO – For the second straight month and the third time this season, the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Student-Athlete of the Month hails from St. Joseph's College. Lisa Scheer (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) a freshman pitcher/third baseman has been named the AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2009.

The Lady Bears softball team went 20-3 during the month of April, largely in part to Scheer's outstanding all-around play. She compiled a .354 batting average (23-for-65) and a .569 slugging percentage to lead all Lady Bears and had a home run, three triples, five doubles, scoring 20 runs and driving in 15.

In the circle, Scheer posted a 10-1 record with a 1.26 earned run average in 72 innings of work. The freshman ace tossed three shutouts and struck out 78 while issuing only 10 walks. In the field, Scheer was perfect in 51 attempts that included 12 putouts and 39 assists.

Scheer received AD3I Player of the Week honors earlier in the month for the week ending April 26, when she posted a 3-0 record including a one-hit, seven-inning shutout over New York University where she struck out 11 and walked one.
