Chiaramonte & Vargas Garner Weekly Accolades

BROOKLYN, NY – Highlighting an impressive week going 4-0 in the circle and batting .583 leading the Lady Bears to six wins on the week, sophomore Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Player of the Week and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Pitcher of the Week as announced by each association earlier this week.

It is the second time this season Chiaramonte has received the accolades from AD3I and USCAA and the first from the HVWAC.  In the circle, Chiaramonte improved her record to 10-3 compiling a 0.88 ERA with 37 strikeouts and no walks in 24 innings of work.  She recorded a one-hit shutout over Sarah Lawrence and a two-hit shutout over Brooklyn College.

Chiaramonte also performed at the plate going 14-for-24 with a .792 slugging percentage, accumulating nine RBI and eight runs scored, building a now 19 game hitting streak.

Also recognized for her strong play was Mabel Vargas (Ridgewood, NY/Mary Louis) who was selected as the HVWAC Rookie of the Week.  Vargas compiled a .412 batting average (7-for-17) with five runs batted in and three runs scored.  In the circle, the freshman utility player made two appearances without surrendering a run in five innings, striking out nine and earning her third win of the season.
