Five Lady Bears Receive USCAA Year-End Accolades

AKRON, OH – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced their 2010 Softball All-American and All-Academic Teams at the awards banquet commencing the 2010 USCAA National Softball Championship.  Alyson Chiaramonte and Millicia Malvasio were All-American selections and Lisa Scheer received All-American Honorable Mention.  Jackie Marinello and Christina Girardi were named to the All-Academic Team.

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) receives her second selection to the All-American team.  She is a two-time USCAA Pitcher of the Week and has compiled a tremendous season in the circle and at the plate.  Chiaramonte has compiled a 15-3 record in the circle with a 1.00 ERA and seven complete game shutouts.  At the plate, Chiaramonte leads the team in batting with a .448 batting average, driving in 27 runs and strung together a school record 23 game hitting streak.

Freshman shortstop Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) has assembled one of the finest rookie seasons by a Lady Bear rewarded by an All-American Team selection.  She leads the team in slugging (.574) and ranks second in batting (.447), just one point behind Chiaramonte.  Nationally, she leads the USCAA in walks (26) and is ranked in the top 10 in on-base percentage (.565) and runs scored (33).

Junior outfielder/catcher Jackie Marinello (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) is named to the All-Academic team for the second straight year.  A solid hitter, Marinello leads the team in on-base percentage (.581) and has recorded one of her best years at the plate, batting .367, her first time over .300, and driving in 16 runs.

Junior infielder Christina Girardi (Floral Park, NY/St. Francis Prep) is also named to the All-Academic team for the second straight year.  Girardi has assembled the best season of her career, accumulating a .379 batting average, 11 hits and 13 RBI.  Girardi also hit a grand slam against New Rochelle for her first career home run.

Sophomore pitcher/third baseman Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) receives All-American Honorable Mention.  Scheer was named Pitcher of the Week once this year and earned seven wins in the circle and pitched her first career no-hitter against Sarah Lawrence. Scheer has also been productive at the dish batting .356 and tied for the team lead in RBI (30)and leading the team in doubles (9) and triples (3).
