Kakavas Tabbed USCAA and AD3I Player of the Week; Chiaramonte Co-Pitcher of the Week

BROOKLYN, NY – Junior Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) swept the weekly award honors for the Association of Division Three Independents (AD3I) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) for the week ending April 3rd. This is Kakavas' first time winning the award for the AD3I and her second time for the USCAA. She also won the award in May of her freshman year.

Not to be outdone, junior Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) took home her second USCAA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors of the young season. Last Year's USCAA First Team All-American went 5-0 in the circle to improve to 8-0 on the year.

Kakavas and Chiaramonte led the Lady Bears to a 7-1 record on the week as the 10-4 Lady Bears sit at #6 in the USCAA poll. In the opening game of a doubleheader with USCAA foe Briarcliffe, Kakavas' walk off home run sent the Lady Bears to victory.

On the week, Kakavas picked up at least one hit in each game on her way to batting .545 (12-for-22) and slugging .909. Kakavas also drove home ten runs while scoring seven, collecting four extra base hits and swiping two bags.

Chiaramonte threw 26 innings in her six appearances. She allowed nine earned runs while striking 40 and walking only three. Her ERA sits at 1.41 for the season. On March 28th Chiaramonte hurled her second career perfect game against City Tech. She struck out a season high 12 in five innings.

Kakavas called Chiaramonte's perfect game and the Lady Bears went 4-0 with that battery on the week.
