Chiaramonte Tosses Perfect Game, Scheer One-Hitter in Sweep of Sarah Lawrence

BELLEROSE, NY – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball cruised past Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference foes Sarah Lawrence College in a doubleheader sweep, taking both games by a score of 14-0 on Friday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Field.

The Lady Bears (13-6, 2-0 HVWAC) extend their winning streak to 13 games, two shy of the school record of 15 games set in 2003.

In the opener, senior Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) overwhelmed the Gryphon batters hurling her third career perfect game, boosting her record to 9-3, and recording her sixth shutout of the season.  She retired the first 10 batters by strikeout and finished with 13 for the game. Chiaramonte also contributed at the plate with a game-high three hits, all doubles, driving in a pair of runs and scoring three times.

In the nightcap, the Gryphons managed to put the ball in play, but Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) kept the Sarah Lawrence off the basepaths, tossing her fourth career one-hitter, finishing with five strikeouts, improving to 4-3 in the circle.   Scheer also had a perfect day hitting, going 4-for-4, accumulating three RBI, three runs, two doubles and two walks over the twinbill.

The Lady Bears matched a season-high 17 hits in the opener and knocked 30 hits for the afternoon with all 11 batters recording at least two hits and one RBI over the doubleheader.

Senior Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) went 2-for-3 for the day collecting three runs and a RBI, scoring her 100th career run in the opener, and currently sits in seventh all-time in runs scored.

Freshman Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) finished a productive day going 4-for-5 with a team-leading five runs scored, a RBI and two walks.  Junior Andrea Sideli (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) had a career game in the nightcap, going 3-for-3, matching a career-high four RBI with a run scored and a triple. 

Junior Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) extended her hitting streak to a team-high-tying nine games, collecting three hits, three runs, a RBI, a double and two walks for the day. Freshman Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) rounded out the six Lady Bears with three hits for the day, also scoring three times with a RBI.

The Lady Bears scored often, posting runs in all eight batting innings.  St. Joseph's jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one before making an out powered by back-to-back RBI doubles from Scheer and Chiaramonte, en route to a six-run opening frame and tacked on five more in the second inning.

In the nightcap, St. Joseph's broke open a 4-0 game with a seven-run second inning  highlighted by a Sideli two-run triple to the gap and a Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic) RBI triple three batters later.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Sunday, April 15th, hosting John Jay College for a doubleheader at starting at 2 p.m. in the first of two more home games at Padavan-Preller Field.
