Chiaramonte Racks Up Player of the Week Honors, Perillo Named HVWAC Rookie of the Week

BROOKLYN, NY – Recognizing another dominant week in the circle recording her 600th career strikeout, senior pitcher Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was named Association of Division III Independents and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the third time this season.

After leading the team in batting last week, freshman outfielder Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) earned HVWAC Softball Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career.

In four appearances and 24 innings of work, Chiaramonte struck out 29 batters and eclipsed the 600-career strikeout mark en route to a 0.88 ERA on the week. Chiaramonte highlighted her week with her eighth shutout in the opener against Mount Saint Vincent, a category she entered last week tied for third in the nation. She followed it up with with five near perfect innings in relief in the finale, her only blemish reaching on an error, and finishing with 16 strikeouts over the twinbill.

Perillo led the Lady Bears in batting over a four-game stretch last week. She batted 5-for-11 (.455) collecting an RBI, run scored, triple and stolen base. Against Old Westbury, Perillo knocked a triple and later scored, producing the only extra-base hit and run for the Lady Bears over the doubleheader.

The Lady Bears (16-9) return to action tonight facing sister campus St. Joseph's College (Long Island) at the new SJC Outdoor Athletic Complex in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Live video and stats available on www.SJCBears.com
