Four Lady Bears Highlight HVWAC All-Conference Softball Team

BRONXVILLE, NY – After capturing their fourth consecutive Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference tournament title on Saturday, four Lady Bears received year-end accolades as Alyson Chiaramonte, Lisa Scheer, Caitlyn Kakavas and Andrea Sideli headlined the 2012 HVWAC All-Conference Softball Team.

Seniors Chiaramonte and Scheer are four-time recipients of the honor, senior Kakavas earns the distinction for the third time in her career and junior Sideli is a first-time selection.

Chiaramonte adds to her long list of accolades after compiling a 16-6 record in the circle with two perfect games, two no-hitters and 11 shutouts. Over 141 innings of work, the five-time HVWAC Pitcher of the Week has maintained a 1.04 ERA and struck out 186 while walking only 15.  Chiaramonte also leads the Lady Bears at the plate with a team-leading .433 batting average and .692 slugging percentage, collecting 45 hits (18 for extra bases), 29 runs and 24 RBI.

Kakavas assembled an active 11-game hitting streak through the HVWAC Tournament and is the team-leading run producer with 31 RBI and base stealer with nine thefts.  Her .414 batting average and .621 slugging percentage ranks second on the team.  The catcher/third baseman accumulated 36 hits, two home runs, two triples and two home runs, including the game-winning homer in the 1-0 victory over St. Joseph's (L.I.).

Scheer has been one of the most consistent hitters in the Lady Bears lineup, batting .391 and slugging .563.  A HVWAC Player of the Week recipient, Scheer ranks second on the team in RBI with 25 and second in extra base hits powered by her team-leading 13 doubles.  She also made 14 starts in the circle compiling a 9-4 record with four shutouts. Scheer tossed three one-hitters this season and struck out 58 over 67 innings of work.

Sideli peaked at the right time building a career-best nine-game hitting streak through Saturday.  She lifted her average to .354 and drove in 14 of her team third-best 22 RBI during the streak.  Sideli earned USCAA, AD3I and HVWAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career going 3-for-3 with a career-high five RBI against Lehman and producing a two-out, game-winning, two-run single against Brooklyn College.
