Troise and Scheer Sweep USCAA Weekly Accolades

BROOKLYN, NY - For the second straight week, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team swept the United States Collegiate Athletic Association weekly honors with seniors Jillian Troise (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) named Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Both Troise and Scheer helped lead the Lady Bears to a 4-0 mark last week, which culminated in their fourth straight Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference tournament title.

Troise became the first Lady Bear in its 11-year history to hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with six RBI and three runs in the HVWAC semifinal victory over Sarah Lawrence. Troise hit her first career home run in the process and was named Tournament MVP.  Her six RBI also matched second-most in a single game by a Lady Bear.  It is the first time in her career receiving USCAA Player of the Week honors.

Scheer tossed a pair of shutout victories, recording a 2-0 record in the circle last week.  She hurled a five-inning, two-hitter, striking out seven against York and followed it up with a five-inning, three-hitter, striking out five against Sarah Lawrence in the HVWAC semifinal. It is the fourth time in her career receiving USCAA Pitcher of the Week honors.

St. Joseph's (25-10) will enter the 2012 USCAA Softball National Championships next week as the #6 seed facing #3 Spalding University in the opening round on Tuesday, May 15th.
