Chiaramonte, Kakavas, Scheer and Quintana Collect USCAA Year-End Honors

AKRON, OH – At the banquet commencing the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Softball National Championships, four Lady Bears received year-end accolades headlined by Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) who was named USCAA All-American for the fourth time in her career. Fellow seniors Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) and Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) received All-American honorable mention and sophomore Christina Quintana (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) was named to the National All-Academic team.

Chiaramonte becomes the first Bear or Lady Bear in any sport to be named All-American for four years. Entering the USCAA National Championships, Chiaramonte compiled a 17-6 record with 12 shutouts, a category she is ranked 4th in Division III.  Over 148 innings of work, she assembled a 0.99 ERA with 195 strikeouts against only 17 walks.  Chiaramonte also led the team at the plate with a .430 batting average and .710 slugging percentage, 46 hits, 30 RBI and four home runs.

Kakavas batted .411, ranked second on the team, powered by a team-best 12-game hitting streak, which is still active.  An All-American last season, Kakavas also led the team in RBIs (31) and stolen bases (9) and was second on the team in slugging percentage (.611) and on-base percentage (.470), runs (27) and hits (37).

Scheer receives year-end honors for the fourth time in her career, named All-American once and All-American honorable mention three times.  Scheer was one of the most consistent hitters, leading the team in on-base percentage (.491) and doubles (13) and ranked third on the team in batting average (.393), runs (25) and RBI (25).

Chiaramonte, Kakavas and Scheer all achieved career milestones this season, joining the 100 hit, 100 run and 100 RBI clubs.

Quintana was named to her first All-Academic team, her first year eligible to receive the award.  The sophomore played in 26 games and made nine starts, batted .216 and collected eight hits, seven RBI and seven runs.

In order to qualify for the National All-Academic Team, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. To date this season, 19 Bears and Lady Bears have received National All-Academic honors.
