Four Lady Bears Highlight HVWAC All-Conference Softball Team

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – After capturing their fifth consecutive Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference tournament title on Sunday, four Lady Bears received year-end accolades as Danielle Marino,Mabel VargasJackie Perillo and Cassandra Molinari headlined the 2013 HVWAC All-Conference Softball Team.

Senior Marino is a two-time recipient of the honor, while senior Vargas and sophomores Perillo and Molinari are first-time selections.

Marino was a consistent threat in the Lady Bears lineup for the entire season as she batted a career-high .415 at the dish finishing with a team-high tying three home runs and 28 RBI. The senior led the team with her 13 doubles and four triples and had a team-best .734 slugging percentage. The catcher/second baseman recorded her 100th career hit against New Rochelle going 5-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep. Marino also made six appearances in the circle going 7.1 innings surrendering only two earned runs for an ERA of 1.91. 

Vargas proved to be a dual-threat for the Lady Bears as she hit .411 while pacing the team with a 5.34 ERA in 23 games including 18 starts pitching 102.1 innings. The two-time HVWAC Player of the Week had a team-high-tying four triples on the year while also accumulating 14 RBI and 17 runs scored. The pitcher/outfielder was the Lady Bears No. 1 starter as she threw ten complete games finishing the season with a 6-11 record. Vargas threw a pair of one-hitters this season with both coming against HVWAC foes Sarah Lawrence and New Rochelle.

Perillo helped anchor St. Joseph's lineup and proved a reliable starting pitcher in her first year in the circle. The sophomore had a team-best 8-6 record pitching 68 1/3 innings finishing with four complete games. The outfielder/pitcher was named USCAA and HVWAC Pitcher of the Week after throwing her first career no-hitter in St. Joseph's win over New Rochelle as she pitched five innings with six strikeouts in the 16th no-hitter in school history. Perillo also showed consistency at the plate as she hit .325 on the year with a team-high 28 runs scored along with 19 RBI and three home runs. The sophomore was named HVWAC Invitational Tournament MVP after having a career day going 7-for-7 with two home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored and earned the win in a combined no-hitter in the semifinals.

Molinari had a career year this season as she batted .359 on the year with a team-high tying 28 RBI along with 23 runs scored. The sophomore was named HVWAC Player of the Week on April 30th as she was the Lady Bears leading hitter batting .400 (8-for-20) while also picking up her first career win in the circle going five innings allowing one earned run on five hits while fanning four at Sarah Lawrence. On the year, Molinari pitched seven innings allowing only one earned run finishing with a 1.00 ERA.
