Molinari and Ferrigno Sweep HVIAC Softball Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior Cassandra Molinari (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and freshman Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) were named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) softball Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week after leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team at the plate during their season-opening Florida trip.

Molinari started her junior season off on a tear as she led the Lady Bears with a .467 batting average, .467 on base percentage and .467 slugging percentage and recorded a hit in four out of six games during the trip. Last year's All-Conference selection was also stellar from behind the dish, throwing out four potential base stealers on the week.

The catcher/second baseman started the season on a high note as she went 3-for-6 with a run scored in St. Joseph's season opener against Alfred State and the University of New England. The junior saved her best performance of the week for game two against perennial USCAA powerhouse Ave Maria University. Molinari went a perfect 3-for-3 with a RBI and run scored in the nightcap against the Gyrenes and finished off the week with a 1-for-2 game against Brockport on Thursday.

Ferrigno had a solid week for St. Joseph's as she hit .231 (3-for-13) and had a team-high three RBIs against tough competition down in Florida. The third baseman began her career with a 1-for-3 day at the plate against Alfred State in the Lady Bears season opener. Against Ave Maria, the freshman went 1-for-3 in game two with a bases-clearing double and the rookie capped off her week with a 1-for-2 performance against Brockport on Thursday.

Molinari takes home the first HVIAC Player of the Week honor of the season and earns the accolade for the second time in her career. Ferrigno is named Rookie of the Week after her first week of play as a Lady Bear.

St. Joseph's (0-6) travels to Lehman College for a doubleheader on Friday, March 28th at 4 p.m.
