Lady Bears Sweep HVIAC Weekly Softball Honors For Second Time This Season

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Recognizing their outstanding play in leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a 7-1 mark last week, three Lady Bears have swept the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly accolades with Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) named Player of the Week, Theresa Armano (Middle Village, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) tabbed Pitcher of the Week and Erica Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) named Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 19.

Rossi earns Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career.  The sophomore outfielder batted .529 (9-for-17), slugged .882 and was the team's top run producer with 12 RBI, also scoring six runs, while collecting two triples, two doubles, two walks and two stolen bases. In the doubleheader vs. Lehman on Sunday, Rossi went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two triples, extending her active hitting streak to six.

Armano collects Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season. The freshman recorded a miniscule 0.33 ERA over 21.0 innings of work in the circle and compiled a 4-0 record, which included a three-hit shutout vs. HVIAC foe New Rochelle. The freshman allowed just 16 hits and just one earned run, striking out 11 and walking three. The highlight of her week was a seven-inning, complete game, five-hit 1-0 shutout over a potent College of Mount Saint Vincent lineup.

Eddy receives Rookie of the Week honors for the first time in her career. The junior second baseman/catcher batted .400 (8-for-20) with six RBI, three runs scored, five walks and a double over the eight-game week. In the doubleheader against New Rochelle, Eddy went 4-for-7 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Lady Bears (15-11) will put their seven-game winning streak on the line against borough rivals Brooklyn College on Thursday, April 23 in a road doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
