Armano Fans Career-High Eight as Softball Extends Streak to Four, One-Hitting New Rochelle

BELLEROSE, N.Y. — Sophomore Theresa Armano (Middle Village, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) faced one batter over the minimum striking out a career-high eight and junior Samantha Rossi's (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) two-hit, three-RBI effort led 10 Lady Bears to drive in a run as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team cruised past The College of New Rochelle with a 16-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened

  • The Lady Bears produced seven runs in the first on just one hit, benefitting on nine free passes to first (eight walks, one hit batter). Samantha Rossi knocked the lone hit in the frame, opening the scoring with a bases-loaded single.
  • The Lady bears tacked on three runs in the second, five in the third and a solo run in the fourth. Rossi's two-out, two-run single highlighted the third and SJC finished two other official base hits by Stephanie Rancel and Nicole Quintana.
  • Theresa Armano struck out six of the first 10 batters she faced before Sherley Burgos spoiled the her perfect game bid punching a single through the right side. Burgos would be the only blemish as Armano struck out eight in her third victory of the season in the circle.

For the Lady Bears

  • Theresa Armano (5 IP, 0 BB, 0 ER) improved to 3-5 in the circle with her second career one-hitter, striking out a career-high eight. The sophomore helped her own cause at the plate with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
  • Samantha Rossi (2-3, 3 RBI) extended her hitting streak to a team-long seven games with her fifth multi-hit game of the season, also a team best.
  • Samantha Simon (0-1) tied a program record with four walks, but brought home three runs and scored twice.
  • Maria Gentile (0-0, BB, RBI, 2 R) extended her reached base safely streak to eight games.
  • Nicole Quintana (1-2, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB) and Stephanie Rancel (1-2, RBI, R, BB) knocked the other hits for SJC.

For the Blue Angels

  • Sherley Burgos was the lone Blue Angel to reach first base with a single in the fourth. She also started in the circle and took the loss falling to 0-3.
