Hartwig Picked to NFCA All-Region Second Team

Hartwig Picked to NFCA All-Region Second Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Adding to an already decorated rookie campaign that garnered Skyline Conference Softball Player of the Year honors, freshman third baseman Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) has been selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to the All-Region Second Team.

Hartwig becomes the second player in team history to be honored by the NFCA named as the northeast region's second team third baseman. Starting in all 36 games for the Bears and batting primarily in the cleanup position, the rookie led the Skyline in batting average (.468), slugging (.739), hits (52), RBI (37), doubles (16), and home runs (4) and sits in the top 100 in the nation in nearly each of those categories.

Selected as a one-time Player and Rookie of the Week, Hartwig was the toughest hitter to strike out in the league, striking out just three times in 120 plate appearances, primarily at cleanup, and didn't strike out in the final 23 games of the season dating back to March 30.

Launching home runs in back-to-back plate appearances is a conference game versus Sarah Lawrence, she matched the program's single-game record for two home runs in a game, the first Bear to accomplish the feat since 2004.

Also named to the All-Skyline First Team, Hartwig helped guide the Bears to a 16-20 overall mark and a program-best fifth place finish which earned their second-straight Skyline postseason berth.

All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. Each All-Region Team is comprised of three 15-player teams with 365 players honored nationally this year.
