Mecham Named Skyline Softball Pitcher of the Week

NEW YORK — After flirting with a perfect game in firing her first collegiate no-hitter, senior Jessica Mecham (West Jordan, Utah/Cooper Hills) has been named the Skyline Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played March 21-27, the league office announced this afternoon.

Mecham tossed the first no-hitter by a Bear since 2019 — the 21st all-time — in Monday's 18-0, game one victory over Brooklyn College. Her walk to the Bulldog leadoff hitter was her lone blemish as she retired 15 straight, striking out a career-high 10.

On the week, the senior hurled  6.1 innings of no-hit, shutout softball striking out 12 as she also made a near-perfect relief appearance on Saturday at Rutgers-Newark.

It is the third straight week a Bear has claimed Pitcher of the Week accolades with Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) receiving the honor the first two weeks. Mecham collects the Pitcher of the Week recognition for the third time in her career.

Last week's Player of the Week, Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills), appeared on the weekly honor roll after compiling a .500 (5-for-10) week at the dish, extending her hitting streak to 12 games, driving in three runs and scoring four times.

The Bears (9-2) will open Skyline Conference play this weekend with a road doubleheader on Friday against Yeshiva and a home twin bill against Mount Saint Mary on Sunday.
