Hartwig Receives CoSIDA Academic All-America® Distinction

Hartwig Receives CoSIDA Academic All-America® Distinction

AUSTIN, Texas — Following her recent selection to the Academic All-District® Team, St. Joseph's University, New York - Brooklyn graduate Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) has been named to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Softball Second Team, announced this afternoon.

Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the distinguished Academic All-America® program is one of the top academic honors in college athletics, recognizing deserving scholar-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Hartwig is the third student-athlete in department history — and the first female — to earn Academic All-America® distinction.

Named Skyline Player of the Year and selected to the All-Skyline First Team in each of her three playing seasons — there were no conference awards in the shortened 2020 season — she is the first Skyline softball student-athlete to receive the honor since 2015. She also earned All-Conference honors as a second-team selection in tennis in 2019 — the first Bear to receive All-Skyline accolades in multiple sports.

Hartwig graduates as the Bears' all-time leader in batting average (.521), slugging percentage (.791), on-base percentage (.569), doubles (49), total bases (269), and assists (230), while finishing second in hits (177), runs batted in (127), and home runs (11). She accomplished these marks despite playing just 12 games in a shortened 2020 season and a 2021 conference-only schedule.

Leading the Skyline in OPS this season, her stellar senior campaign saw her finish as the Division III leader in on-base percentage (.619) and ranked third in batting average (.556) and seventh toughest to strikeout. Over her career, Hartwig struck out just five times in 391 plate appearances.

Maintaining a near-perfect GPA in her final term, the chemistry and mathematics double major graduated two weeks ago with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. The president of the Bears Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this past year, she also held leadership roles and was active in other student organizations. She served on the executive board of the Beta Upsilon Delta Sorority and St. Joseph's Computer Club and was a resident advisor at the residence hall.

Hartwig joins David Louison '15 and Michael Megafu '16 of men's basketball as the all-time Bears Academic All-America® honorees.
