McKeon Picks Up First-Career Skyline Player of the Week Accolade

NEW YORK — Maeve McKeon (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) of the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) softball team was named Skyline Conference Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday morning.

Batting .615, the senior registered hits in each of the Bears' four games in Florida last week, going for multi-hit games in all but one contest. Last Tuesday, she went 3-for-4 against Wilmington (Ohio) with a double, RBI, and pair of runs scored to begin the week. Despite falling to NYU, McKeon was one of two Bears with a pair of base knocks.

McKeon batted 1-for-2 and scored a run against Western Connecticut State on Wednesday morning before going 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI en route to a 7-6 extra-innings win over MCLA. She also stole a base in the winning effort.

The Point Pleasant native's first career Skyline weekly honor marks the first weekly accolade for the softball program this season. McKeon also becomes the fourth Bear to earn Player of the Week since joining the conference; joining Amber Wainwright (2017), Ashleigh Hartwig (2019, 2021-22), and Nicole Trani (2021).

Earning a place on the weekly honor roll was rookie pitcher Brooke Horn (Lakeside, Calif./El Capitan). She pitched in three of the Bears' four games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, totaling an ERA of 2.70 while striking out 13 batters; including a season-best six against WestConn.

Having returned from their stay in the Sunshine State, McKeon and the Bears are back in action on Wednesday, March 22 with a non-conference doubleheader against Hunter College. First pitch from Randall's Island is scheduled for 3 p.m. with live stats available on sjbkathletics.com/live.
