Brooklyn College Rolls Past Lady Bears

(BROOKLYN, NY)  Lady Bears Basketball suffered their worst loss of the season losing 81-49 to Brooklyn College on Monday evening on the road at Roosevelt Gymnasium.

Early on the game was competitive with both teams exchanging baskets and neither able to build a lead.  A three-pointer from Melissa Velez(Queens, NY / Mary Louis) with 8:23 remaining in the half would give St. Joseph's an 18-17 lead, its final lead of the game.  Brooklyn College then went on a 11-0 run in the next two minutes to take control with a 10 point lead which it took into the lockers 36-26.

The Bridges opened the second period with a 19-4 run to extend their advantage to 25 and the Lady Bears appeared deflated and without answers.  Brooklyn College led by as many as 38 before closing out the game 81-49. Brooklyn College dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lady Bears 53-33 and scoring 24 points in the paint.  The Bridge's constant full-court pressure also forced 27 turnovers which led to 21 points.

St. Joseph's was led by Melissa Velez who netted 12 points and two rebounds.  Freshman Ashley McQuillan(Brooklyn, NY / St, Francis Prep), who currently leads the USCAA and AD3I in scoring, chipped in 10 points and grabbed four boards and two steals.  Brooklyn College had all 12 players score and was led by Demi Quintana with 19 points and four rebounds and Eja Wong adding 14 points.

The loss drops the St. Joseph's back to .500 at 4-4 and Brooklyn College improves to 4-3.  The Lady Bears return to action on Saturday night at home at Brooklyn Technical High School for the second game of the "Holiday Hoops Doubleheader" against Southern Vermont College.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM following the men's basketball game.
