Four Lady Bears Named to USCAA National All-Academic Team

UNIONTOWN, PA – At the annual banquet commencing the 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Basketball Championships last week, the USCAA recognized the members of the 2010-2011 All-American and All-Academic Teams. Tara Gleason (Woodside, NY/Stella Maris), Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch), Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) were all named to the National All-Academic Team.

All four Lady Bears excelled both in the classroom and on the court maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Gleason receives the honor for the third time in her career, receiving it every year she's been eligible. Marciniec, Doran and Marino are each first-time recipients of the honor.

Gleason, a senior guard, compiled the finest season of her career, starting in 20 games, scoring 132 points and led the team in free throw percentage (.773) and 3-point FG percentage (.432).

Marciniec, a junior co-captain, started in all but three games and averaged 7.1 points prior to suffering a season-ending knee injury in the game against Staten Island.

Doran had a terrific sophomore campaign, leading the Lady Bears in rebounding (5.7) and second on the team in scoring (8.9).

Marino, a two-sport athlete finishing her rookie basketball season, came off the bench to give the Lady Bears quality minutes.

The four Lady Bears named to the All-Academic Team equals the most by one team to receive the honor, set by the women's swimming team last season.
