Retas Earns AD3I and HVWAC Player of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Recognizing her outstanding performance on the hardwood, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) forward Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Player of the Week after collecting her fifth double-double of the season in a 68-56 loss to Staten Island.

The sophomore scored a career-high-tying 23 points and pulled down 12 boards, both game highs, to record the seventh double-double of her career. Retas shot an efficient 53 percent going 8-for-15 from the field while dishing out four assists and swatting away three shots in the Lady Bears' only game last week.

Retas adds to a growing list of weekly accolades, receiving the honor from AD3I for the third time this season and from HVWAC for the first time. Retas also received United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) honors earlier this month.

Retas and the Lady Bears return to action on Friday, December 28th beginning a two-game California trip taking on AD3I foes University of California, Santa Cruz in a neutral site game played at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. Tip-off is slated for 10:30 p.m. eastern time.
