Lady Bears Close Season on Five-Game Win Streak With Senior Night Victory Over Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Senior Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's Academy) scored a career-high 30 points and senior Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added a double-double as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team defeated Yeshiva University 91-68 on Senior Night at Brooklyn Technical High School on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Bears (17-10) close out their 2012-13 campaign as winners of five straight and finish with the most wins since their 2005-06 season.

Mangan recorded her career scoring night draining 6-of-11 from behind the arc while swiping four steals, grabbing four boards and dishing out three assists. Doran registered her third double-double of the season and 11th of her career by way of 13 points and 14 rebounds, also swatting away four shots and swiping four steals.

Four Lady Bears finished in double figures with junior Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) posting a near double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds and junior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) adding 13 points and dishing out five assists.

Senior Stephanie Quick (Howard Beach, NY/Stella Maris) added four points and three thefts and senior Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) secured five caroms and added two points.

Yeshiva (5-15) was led by Rebecca Yoshor who recorded a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double and Haley David who contributed an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double.

The opening period featured a fast tempo with both teams combining for over 90 points before the intermission. The visitors obliged with the run-and-gun style of the Lady Bears and took the lead on several occasions early in the contest. A five-point spurt from Mangan off a trifecta and a pair of free throws gave St. Joseph's a 20-17 lead at the 13 minute mark they wouldn't relinquish. But the Maccabees wouldn't let the Lady Bears pull away using a 40 percent connect rate in the frame to keep pace and held the deficit to single digits until five quick points before the break capped by a McNamee trifecta at the buzzer gave St. Joseph's a 51-41 halftime lead. Mangan would finish the first half leading all scorers with 19 points.

The second stanza would be all St. Joseph's as they held the Maccabees without a field goal for nearly the first six minutes of play and used an 11-0 run to open a 62-43 advantage, which they held steady until the final buzzer.

The 91 points are the most scored by the Lady Bears since the 2006 season—also against Yeshiva. St. Joseph's finished the game shooting 42 percent (37-of-89) and controlled the ball well dishing out 23 assists and swiping 18 steals.

St. Joseph's will wait until Monday, February 25th to see if their season will continue with a second-straight selection to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will be broadcast on NCAA.com at 2:30 p.m.
