Moran Dubbed USCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) has named senior Megan Moran (Syosset, N.Y./St. Dominic's) its women's basketball Player of the Week after the forward helped lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team to a key victory over USCAA rivals The Apprentice School.

Moran continues to impress in her final season as she averaged a near double-double during a 1-1 week for the Lady Bears which included a win over the Lady Builders. In St. Joseph's overtime loss to 2013 USCAA National Championship qualifier Southern Virginia University Moran went 5-of-12 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 at the charity stripe to post 16 points. The senior also corralled six caroms, dished out two helpers, and had a block and a steal to fill out the stat sheet.

The forward concluded her week with the fourth double-double of her career as she connected on an impressive 6-of-11 shots from the field and continued her perfect stretch at the foul line going 5-of-5 to finish with a season-high-tying 17 points while bringing down a season-high 10 boards in St. Joseph's win over Apprentice which moved the Lady Bears back over .500 at 4-3.

For the week, Moran shot an efficient 47.8 percent from the floor and finished with averages of 16.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game.

Moran earns the third Player of the Week honor by a Lady Bear this season following junior Samantha Retas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and fellow senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) who took home USCAA and AD3I Player of the Week, respectively. The Player of the Week accolade is the first earned by the senior in her career.

St. Joseph's returns to the hardwood tonight as they face off against HVIAC foe King's College at Brooklyn Technical High School with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
