Marino Earns AD3I Player of the Week & HVIAC Rookie of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y.For her outstanding play on the basketball court last week, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) was named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) women's basketball Player of the Week as well as the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Conference (HVIAC) Rookie of the Week announced by both league offices yesterday.

The guard tallied her third career double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the Lady Bears' win over Puerto Rico-Cayey on Sunday. She also swiped five steals and dished two assists while shooting 5-for-10 from the field as St. Joseph's improved to 6-4.

Marino is second on the team with 11.6 points (sixth in AD3I) and 7.9 rebounds per game (ninth in AD3I), and also leads the squad in 3.9 assists per game.

She now has three weekly accolades over her first season in a St. Joseph's uniform. It is the second time the HVIAC has honored Marino for Rookie of the Week this season, and the first time in her career to be named AD3I Player of the Week.

The Lady Bears have two more games in Puerto Rico before returning home from to take on The Apprentice School on Saturday, January 10 at the Hill Center as the lead game of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip time is at 4:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at SJCBears.com.
