Women's Basketball Gets a Team Effort for Seventh Straight Win over King's

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Every active Lady Bear contributed on the stat sheet tonight as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team defeated King's (N.Y.), 74-32, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) game Saturday night at the Hill Center.

The Lady Bears (14-7, 5-0 HVIAC) have extended their season-best win streak to seven wins, their longest since the 2011-2012 season. This is their tenth win at home in their inaugural season on Frank P. Carbone Court.

Junior Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) came one rebound shy of her second double-double, tallying team-highs 11 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Raccuglia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) dished out a game-high nine assists to go along with seven points.

Erica Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King), Dana Nicholson (Maspeth, N.Y./Christ the King), and Kristen Candelaria (Jamaica, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) each scored nine points during the Lady Bears' balanced attack. Eddy also added a career-best six boards, while Candelaria corralled eight boards in the win. For Nicholson, the nine points are a career-high.

Anna Eaves led the Lady Lions (3-5, 0-3 HVIAC) by recorded a double-double game-highs in both points (18) and rebounds (18) in a losing cause. Kylie Locklar added eight points and six boards, while Jessie Schnoebelen chipped in with six points and five rebounds.

After the Lady Lions scored the first basket of the game, St. Joseph's would even the score 17 seconds later and would never trail in the game. GaNun scored eight of her 11 points off four nice Raccuglia assists in the first half. They went into halftime leading 40-16.

The second half with King's scoring six quick points to cut into the lead, but an 11-0 run over the next three minutes of play would put the game out of reach as the Lady Bears cruised to victory.

St. Joseph's continued their dominant presence on defense. Their pressure forced King's to commit 32 turnovers on the game and capitalized with 32 points off those mistakes. They also pressured the Lady Lions to shoot just 21.2% from the field, while they nearly doubled that on the offensive end shooting 42.1%. The Lady Bears also owned a 26-4 assists advantage, including 14 in the first half.

The Lady Bears will close out their weekend home stand with a matchup against CUNYAC foe John Jay as part of a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at the Hill Center. Tip time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Live stats and video coverage will be available at SJCBears.com.
