Porcasi and Quesada Collect Skyline Co-Player and Rookie of the Week Accolades

NEW YORK – Leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team to a 91-78 triumph over the City College of New York last Thursday, sophomore Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) was named the Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Week and freshman Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was tabbed Rookie of the Week announced by the league office last night.

Both turning in 20-point efforts, the duo rounded out four in double figures to help the Bears (4-6) post their season high in points and tied the third-highest tally in program history.

In the victory, Porcasi crossed 20 points for the third straight game, netting 21 and pulling down 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. The sophomore guard played all 40 minutes and was efficient, shooting 6-of-9 from the floor, including a perfect 2-of-2 from distance, and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. In addition, she dished out four assists and had a steal and a block to earn her first Player of the Week honor.

Coming off the bench, Quesada posted a season-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and paired it with 10 rebounds for her team-leading third double-double of the season. The Rookie of the Week honor is the first for Quesada and the second collected by a Bear this season with Gina Hopkins receiving the accolade on November 28th.

St. Joseph's returns to action tomorrow, January 4th, resuming Skyline Conference play against SUNY College at Old Westbury to wrap up a six-game home stand at The Hill Center. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. and leads off a doubleheader with the men hosting St. Joseph's (Long Island) afterward. Live stats and video will be available on SJCBears.com.
