O'Donnell Named D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Adding to an already decorated freshman campaign, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) guard Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) has been selected as the D3hoops.com Atlantic Region women's basketball Rookie of the Year, announced earlier today. She becomes the first Bears women's basketball player to receive year-end honors from the site.

The Marine Park native helped the Bears program-best 9-9 mark in Skyline Conference play and berth in the Skyline Conference Championship for the second time in three seasons, posting team highs in scoring (17.8), rebounding (8.0), steals (2.5) and double-doubles (7). For her efforts, she was also named the Skyline Rookie of the Year and was a Second Team All-Skyline honoree.

The 5-foot-10 guard started in all 26 games of the Bears' 11-15 campaign and set a program rookie record averaging 17.8 points an outing that ranked 3rd in the Skyline and was second best among all rookies in Division III women's basketball (65th overall). She scored in double figures in all but one game, finishing on an active streak of 24 games, which included two Division I opponents.

She also became the first rookie in program history to compile three 30-plus-point games, highlighted by a career-high 35 points against sibling rivals St. Joseph's (Long Island).  O'Donnell set a team single-game record swiping 10 steals against Sarah Lawrence to record the first points-steals double-double in team history.
